Boy Mom: What Your Son Needs Most from You – Monica Swanson

Book Review: Boy Mom – Monica Swanson

Monica Swanson’s Boy Mom guidebook is based on her own experiences raising four boys who’s ages range from college down to elementary school. The book highlights what sons need most and ways to navigate those areas. Monica balances real-life examples with research and practical application that is useful to mothers in each stage of life. It’s a perfect guide for evaluating your own parenting style, priorities, and opportunities as you build a solid relationship with your son and prepare him to launch into adulthood.

As a mother of three boys I have been encouraged by Monica’s straightforward, genuine, grace-filled perspective on parenting. Raising boys requires a delicate balance of gentle motherly love, strength, and discipline. Boy Mom offers tools for raising confident, wise, gentleman who can function successfully in the world.

This was a great read. The advice is focused on boy moms but I truly think any one would find value in reading this book. Below are a few of the principles that resonate with me from Boy Mom.

Monica Swanson is an author and popular blogger whose post “What a Teenage Boy Needs Most from His Mom” reached nearly two million readers in just over a week. She has contributed to the Today show website, the Huffington Post, and the MOB (Mothers of Boys) Society.  She and her doctor-husband, Dave, have one son in college and three more boys, who divide their time between homeschooling and surfing. The Swansons enjoy growing tropical fruit at their home in the country on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
