We moved into our home a few months ago and we’ve been making do with our patio furniture from our old house. Reality is, it just doesn’t work for our current space. We found a dining set, including chairs, that we loved a few months back. We were in a little town, not too far from our home, but we didn’t have the right car with us so we decided to hold off until we figured out how to get it home. Well, any decent bargain hunter knows the end of this story…. it was gone by the time we got our life together. This was a real amateur hour for me. I mean, I have sat on top of politlety stood next to furniture while my husband paid for it just to be sure we wouldn’t loose it. Our punishment: an uninspiring summer of blah backyard.
As luck would have it our story has a happy ending. Post Independence Day summer sales (and World Market) saved the day! Woohoo! If you’re looking to update any of your outdoor spaces- now is the time.
We have dinner outside more often than inside so our table needs to work for our daily meals while also accommodating guests. We found a table that seats eight and fits perfectly into the space we have. I like to mix things up so we opted for chairs that weren’t from the same collection. These stunning armchairs have a wicker weave and acacia wood legs. While we had a few criteria for the chairs, function and comfort were the most important. It’s the long conversations and memories made around the table that matter most so we wanted chairs that were soft, had arms and felt cozy. They’ve already served as judges chairs for cannonball contests, welcomed neighbors for a relaxing afternoon cocktail and hosted new friends for an evening of family fun. All things we had in mind as we designed our outdoor space.
As an added bonus we found an occasional set that worked well for the two spaces on either side of the dining area. The deals were too good to pass up so we snagged these while we could. I like that everything compliments each other and ties the entire back patio together. While its still a work in progress having these main seating areas has really made the outdoor area feel more welcoming and we’ve been spending even more time out back.
A few fun accents. The palm fronds I used in the center of the table are from our own tree. Palm trees really don’t need much pruning so if you chose wisely when you cut the over grown fronds you can use them as a center piece. The limes are also from a tree in our backyard-I love this! I can’t really take credit yet because they were here when we arrived but I haven’t killed them so I’m taking that as a win.
I hope you’re having a beautiful summer! S~
